The result of the first round

Dear Contestants,

 

Thank you for your participation in the GIX Innovation Competition.

 

We have selected 50 projects from the applications for the second round. Please check your emails for the result.

 

The second round will be an Internet based virtual road show on October 17th and 18th, 2016. Our committee will select the top 20 for the final competition.

 

Please note that this stage is about the demonstration of your idea. After the demonstration, the judging committee will have 5 minutes of discussion with you conducted via Skype.

 

Materials required for the 50 projects:

 

You need to provide the following materials to us before the second round:

 

1、A video:The demonstration should be in a video that is no longer than 2 minutes. You need to save the video on YouTube, VIMEO, YouKu or a similar service that is readily accessible and provide the direct link to the page and send them back to us. Do NOT password protect the video.

 

2:Two documents: You will also need to prepare one detailed technical description and one market analysis report for your project. The word limit is 500 words each.

 

Both documents should be written in Microsoft Word and saved as separate PDF files. Please name the files using you project number and specify the type of the file, e.g. CAMPGIX200100decription or CAMPGIX200100report.

 

Please notice: all contents in the video and the documents should be in English. 

 

Please send the video link, the detailed technical description and the market analysis report back to us by Oct 14th, 2016, 5:00pm MST.

We are calling for university students and young innovators to bring their “Connected Devices” projects that are original and technologically inventive, covering areas such as the Internet of Things, wearable devices, intelligent hardware, VR, AR, ubiquitous computing, intelligent sensors, natural interactions and related applications.

 

Please join us at https://gix.tusstar.com/--you will only need two minutes for our quick application, and a link for a complete submission form about your innovative idea will be sent to you via email later. The prototype of your idea is required at the final competition in November.

 

Our Criteria:

1.Candidates are current undergraduate and graduate students and those who have graduated within the last 5 years,whose projects are original and not financed yet.

2. Candidates can participate in the competition as a individuals or in teams. A team should include at most three members.

3.The innovativeness of technology and application mode are the main rating standards.

4.In the selection stages, our evaluation is based on the idea of the project and the development of this idea. In the final competition, the prototype of the project is required to be presented.

 

Recommended Platforms

We provide several technology supporting platforms for implementing your idea. You can choose other platforms as well.

Our Prizes:

There are two forms of prize: cash prizes and scholarships.

• Cash prizes for competition entrants award will go to at most 10 winning teams.

The First Prize: $30,000 for each of the top 3 teams.

The Second Prize: $20,000 for each of the next 3 teams.

The Third Prize: $10,000 for each of the next 4 teams.

 

• In addition, scholarships will be available for individuals in the top 50 projects who demonstrate strong performance and promise if they are admitted to and enroll in the GIX Dual Master degree. The scholarship is independent from the competition award.

 

In addition, incubation services in Beijing will be provided for excellent projects.

Schedule

1. Global Recruitment: before September 20th, 2016

 

Applications for the competition will be due by September 20th, 2016. At this stage, what we really need is your brilliant idea. We are encouraging everyone in related fields to give it a shot, as an individual or as a team (a team should consist of at most 3 people).

 

Please join us at https://gix.tusstar.com/--you will only need two minutes for our quick application, and a link for a complete submission form about your innovative idea will be sent to you via email later. The prototype of your idea is required at the final competition in Nov. You have a relatively long period of time to develop your idea before the final competition.

 

2.Selection of Projects: before September 30th, 2016

 

The second stage is the selection of projects. Our Technical Program Committee will select 50 projects from the pool of applications to go to the second round. Selection will be done by September 30th, 2016. This is an online selection that focuses on your idea as presented in your application.

 

3.Selection of Final Competition Projects: before October 15th, 2016

The third stage is the selection of final competition projects. The 50 teams chosen above will present their ideas in a virtual road show (in the form of video conferencing) before October15th. Our committee will select the top 20 who will go to the final competition. Please note that this stage is about your idea too. We’d like to see any kind of the demonstration of your idea, including the development of your idea, but don’t expect prototypes at this stage.

 

4.Final Competition: the second week of November 2016

 

This is our grand finale. You will present the prototype of your project at this stage.

 

The finale is a live road show that will be held in Beijing, in the second week of November 2016.

 

You will demonstrate your project directly to world-leading innovators and they will share their knowledge and experiences with you.

 

From the top 20 projects, we will have at most three first prizes, three second prizes and four third prizes.

About our Dual Master Degree Program

Exponential growth in connected devices is expected over the next decade, resulting in tremendous social and economic value, as the Internet of Things, Ubiquitous Computing, Wearable Computing, and Smart Devices become dramatically more cost effective, simpler to develop, and increasingly mainstream. Connected devices are poised to advance such diverse fields as health and natural resource management. To invent new applications and develop the expanding connected device market requires leaders with an array of technology, prototyping, design and entrepreneurial skills. We address global challenges by interdisciplinary project oriented education. We train the students how to integrate resources and leverage the innovation ecosystem to change the world. Connected devices is the first dual master degree program offered by GIX. Starting from the fall 2017, prospective students with innovation consciousness, vision and sense of responsibility and mission will start their study in Bellevue.

大赛主题

2016大赛的主题是“智慧互联、源头创新、改变世界”, 征集 “智慧互联”(Connected Devices)原始创新参赛项目,既具有科技前瞻性(例如物联网、穿戴设备、智能硬件、VR、AR、普适计算、智能感知、自然交互等方面的软、硬件技术及应用创新),也面向现实需求(例如教育、环保、健康医疗、交通、健身、家居、娱乐、信息无障碍等),让世界更美好。
本次大赛的工作语言为英文。

 

评选标准

  1. 参赛对象为全球本科或研究生在校生或毕业五年以内的创新者,项目原创、无知识产权纠纷,未融资。
  2. 选手可以个人身份参赛,也可以以团队参赛。每个团队不超过三人。
  3. 评选主要标准为项目的技术及应用模式的创新性。
  4. 项目海选和初赛阶段的评选主要参考项目创意资料和进展。进入决赛的项目在决赛时需要已经完成项目原型的开发,并在决赛中现场演示原型。

 

奖项设置

奖项分为现金奖金和奖学金奖励两种形式

1. 对大赛中表现优秀的团队将给予奖金的奖励。

    大赛设立的奖项不超过:

一等奖3名, 二等奖3名 ,三等奖4名。

2. 此外,面向参加答辩的优秀项目团队(前50名)中的优秀个人提供奖学金。在前五十个项目中表现出色并同意进入GIX学习的选手将获得GIX Dual Master degree奖学金。大赛的获奖项目名次与GIX奖学金相互独立,互不影响。

 

活动日程

1、征集(9月20日截止):
面向全球范围启动项目招募,线上线下渠道配合同步发布(宣传海报、宣传视频、专题网站、新媒体等)。项目通过网上报名渠道提交,上传创新项目的创意阐述(项目未完成甚至未开展也可仅提交创意)。

 

2、海选(9月30日前完成):
海选50优秀项目: 技术评审委员会在线审核所提交项目创意资料, 从中选拔出50个优秀项目。

 

3、初赛(10月15日前完成):
评选20个决赛项目:通过虚拟路演的方式,在50个参赛项目中选择20个项目,这20个项目将进入最后的决赛。

 

4、决赛(11月第二周):
专家评审团根据现场路演(包括现场演示项目原型) 进行决赛评比,根据排名给予最终奖励。
参加决赛的选手将与国际著名创新领袖组成的专家评委当面交流, 论剑创新。决赛将评选出最多10个获奖项目,一等奖奖金高达3万美元。
